DroneBlocks Virtual Competition Series – Terms and Conditions

1. General

  • By participating in the DroneBlocks Virtual Competition Series (“Competition”), participants (“Entrants”) agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). These Terms apply to all submissions and activities related to the Competition.

2. Eligibility

  • Schools must be active DroneBlocks Enterprise Members to participate.
  • Participants must have permission from their school or educational institution.
  • Schools must submit parental releases (download here) for each participating student upon the submission.
  • All team members must be in good academic standing as determined by their school.

3. Submission Guidelines

  • Entrants must submit a video overview of their project, including the roles and responsibilities of team members and code examples used.
  • Submissions must be original work created by the team and should not contain content (music, images etc.) created or owned by third parties or infringe upon any third-party intellectual property rights.

4. Use of Submissions

  • By entering the Competition, Entrants grant DroneBlocks a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, edit, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, and display the submissions (including all associated content, such as video, audio, images, and code) in any media or format, whether now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose, including but not limited to marketing, promotional, and educational purposes.
  • DroneBlocks reserves the right to edit or alter submissions for any reason, including but not limited to clarity, length, or compliance with these Terms.

5. Intellectual Property

  • All intellectual property rights in the materials submitted to the Competition remain with the Entrants. However, by submitting a project, Entrants agree to the usage rights outlined in Section 4.
  • Entrants warrant that they have the necessary rights to grant the licenses described in these Terms and that their submissions do not violate any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights.

6. Judging and Public Voting

  • Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges appointed by DroneBlocks based on criteria including creativity, technical skill, real-world applicability, and overall impact.
  • The top three finalists in each category will be selected by the judges and will be subject to public voting to determine the winners.
  • DroneBlocks reserves the right to disqualify any submission that fails to comply with these Terms or that, in DroneBlocks’ sole discretion, is deemed inappropriate, offensive, or otherwise unsuitable.

7. Prizes

  • Winning teams in each category will receive $2,500 in five $500 gift cards.
  • Prizes are non-transferable, and no cash alternative is available.
  • DroneBlocks reserves the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.

8. Limitation of Liability

  • DroneBlocks is not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate information, technical errors, or malfunctions related to the Competition. It is also not responsible for unauthorized human intervention in any part of the Competition or for any technical or human error that may occur in the administration of the Competition or the processing of entries. The determinations of DroneBlocks are final and binding with respect to any matter arising out of the Competition and/or the interpretation or application of these Terms and Conditions.
  • By participating, Entrants agree to release and hold harmless DroneBlocks, its affiliates, and its employees from any and all liability for any injury, loss, or damage caused or claimed to be caused by participation in the Competition, including but not limited to accidents or unforeseen issues arising during project development, whether involving physical harm to individuals or damage to hardware.
  • DroneBlocks is not liable for any damage or loss related to drone operations, robot usage, or any other project activities conducted by the participants.

9. Safety and Compliance

  • All projects involving drones or robots must adhere to safety guidelines provided by DroneBlocks.
  • Entrants must ensure that all drone-related projects comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and guidelines when operating outdoors in national airspace. Failure to comply with FAA regulations may result in disqualification.
  • Teams must ensure that their projects do not pose any risk to themselves, others, or property. Submissions that are deemed unsafe or violate safety protocols will be disqualified.

10. Environmental Responsibility

  • Participants are encouraged to consider the environmental impact of their projects, especially those involving outdoor drone activities. Projects should aim to promote environmental consciousness and sustainability.

11. Privacy

  • By participating in the Competition, Entrants agree that DroneBlocks may collect, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with DroneBlocks’ Privacy Policy, available on its website. Information collected for the purposes of the competition will include the team name and school name.

12. Amendments

  • DroneBlocks reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Any changes will be posted on the DroneBlocks website, and continued participation in the Competition will constitute acceptance of any revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas.

Acknowledgment
