The first-ever DroneBlocks Virtual Competition Series has kicked off! DroneBlocks has put up $10,000 in prizes to ignite the creativity and drive of our amazing community of DroneBlocks members. Even more, all Enterprise Members are welcome to join the competition for Free! With no barrier to entry, we want every student to have a shot to win big, and show off their STEM skills. This completely virtual competition runs throughout the year, with a submission deadline in Late Spring 2025, giving your students time to master their hardware of choice. Whether it be through the air or on four legs – students will display their mastery of robotics and coding ingenuity via a video submission, which will be open to both judging and community voting. As if $10,000 in prize money wasn’t enough, DroneBlocks will also feature our favorite projects across social media, the DroneBlocks community and with our industry partners!

Form a team! Assemble teams of 5 students each and choose from 4 Competition Categories. Each category features a different piece of DroneBlocks hardware: the Crazyflie, DEXI, Unitree GO2, or Drone Light Show Kit. Student teams must assemble a video submission by Late Spring 2025 that showcases their innovative project and achievements while displaying their team roles, journey, and code examples. We’ve been sure to leave extra room for creativity and plenty of blank space on the canvas!
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Crazyflie and Tello – Micro-Mission Mastery
Program Crazflie drones to complete a series of precise micro-missions within a confined space. Possible missions include navigating intricate obstacle courses, performing precision landings, or retrieving and delivering small objects. Think drone agility, obstacle courses, and prevision landings! Use Drone Blocks or Python to create mission logic that impresses with accuracy and creativity.
DEXI Drone – Aerial Innovation Quest
How can drones be used to improve everyday life? Use the DEXI drone to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. Whether environmental monitoring, artistic displays, or practical problem-solving, this challenge is about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with drone technology.
Light Show Drone Kit – Symphony in the Sky
Can you create a captivating drone performance that wows? Design and program a mesmerizing drone light show synchronized to music. Participants will use the Light Show Drone Kit to create a visual spectacle that blends technology with artistry.
Unitree Quadruped Robot – Robo-Rescue Mission
How will you use drones in life-saving applications? Program the Unitree quadruped robot to simulate real-life rescue missions or navigate challenging environments. Tasks may include traversing rough terrain, delivering supplies, or conducting search and rescue operations.
HOW TO WIN
Submit your team’s video (less than 10 minutes in length), and wow the DroneBlocks judging panel! Team submissions will be judged on 4 criteria by a group of industry experts:
Creativity: Originality and innovation of the project idea.
Technical Skill: Complexity and execution of the programming.
Real-World Applicability: Practicality and impact of the project.
Overall Presentation: Clarity, organization, and professionalism of the submission.
The judges will choose their Top 3 Projects, and the rest will be up to the worldwide DroneBlocks community via popular vote! A winner will rise from each category – with $2500 in gifts for each victorious team.
