Overview of Competition Categories and What We’re Looking For

1. Micro-Mission Mastery (Crazyflie & Tello Drones)

Challenge Description:
In this category, students will program Crazyflie or Tello drones to complete intricate, small-scale missions within a confined space. Whether it’s navigating a maze, performing a precision landing, or moving an object from one point to another, this challenge is all about precision, agility, and problem-solving through programming.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Drone Agility and Precision: How effectively can your students program their drones to perform tasks with accuracy and finesse?
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Encourage students to design innovative mission paths, overcome obstacles, and think critically.
  • Use of Programming Tools: Teams may utilize DroneBlocks or Python to create their custom flight logic and mission designs.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Navigating obstacles
  • Performing precision maneuvers
  • Maximizing the use of available space for mission execution

2. Aerial Innovation Quest (DEXI Drone)

Challenge Description:
In the Aerial Innovation Quest, students will use the DEXI drone to solve real-world problems or develop innovative aerial applications. Whether they’re conducting environmental monitoring, capturing unique aerial footage for artistic projects, or creating practical solutions to everyday challenges, this category invites students to think big!

What We’re Looking For:

  • Real-World Applications: How can drones impact and improve our world? We want to see projects that tackle practical challenges.
  • Creative Solutions: Encourage students to unleash their creativity and develop aerial applications that stand out.
  • Innovation and Practicality: Focus on how their solution could make a difference in their community or industry.

3. Symphony in the Sky (Light Show Drone Kit)

Challenge Description:
This category challenges students to create and choreograph a custom light show using the DroneBlocks Light Show Drone Kit, synchronized to music. Participants will combine technical expertise with artistic flair to design a captivating aerial performance that leaves audiences in awe.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Synchronization and Precision: How well can students coordinate drones with music and timing?
  • Creativity and Visual Impact: Stunning visual effects, choreography, and storytelling are key elements of a successful performance.
  • Technical Execution: Precision in programming and flawless execution of drone movements are essential.

  • Choreography and synchronization with music
  • Creative storytelling through light and motion

4. Robo-Rescue Mission (Quadruped Robot)

Challenge Description:
In this category, students will program the Unitree quadruped robot to simulate a real-world rescue mission. The challenge may involve navigating rough terrain, delivering critical supplies, or locating objects in challenging environments. It’s all about mobility, adaptability, and autonomous problem-solving.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Mobility and Obstacle Navigation: Can the robot overcome various obstacles and traverse different terrains?
  • Simulation of Real-World Scenarios: Projects should mimic realistic rescue operations, demonstrating practical applications of robotics.
  • Problem-Solving with Autonomous Robotics: Encourage students to create intelligent, adaptable solutions through programming.
